Betty’s Diagnosis: Is Rike Pregnant?
Rike wants to be sure and takes a pregnancy test. “What do you do if the test is immediately positive?” Betty asks her. “That would be the purest catastrophe, Olli is so angry and hurt. […] But I could never decide against having a child,” Rike replies, visibly nervous. Then the result: Rike is not pregnant. She doesn’t have time to process that, work is calling.
Still, she wants to talk to Oliver. He’s coming, but he’s on duty and in a hurry. This is how Rike makes it short: “I did a pregnancy test, not pregnant. Her boyfriend’s answer is even shorter: a nod and an okay. “I wanted you to know that I’m really really sorry about all this.” Olli interrupts her because he has to go on.
Only later does he reappear to talk to Rike. “I know that I should never have done something like that. But when we took care of the abandoned baby, you were so caring and loving, I really thought…” Rike begins. “You thought that you could decide for me whether I would be a father again,” Oliver cuts her off. “It was wrong to secretly stop taking the pill, that was a big mistake,” Rike defends himself. But Olli doesn’t sound like forgiveness: “I really thought I’d found love again. I was really happy. And then you do that?” Rike suggests starting from scratch. “Rike, you want children. I’m through with the topic. We don’t have a basis. […] I can never trust you again.” “It’s over?” asks Rike. And Olli just nods.
