Biden promises high-speed internet for every home in the US

“These investments will help all Americans,” he said. “We are not going to leave anyone behind.”

Biden announced the distribution of more than 40,000 million dollars throughout the country to bring high-speed internet to places where there is no service or the service is very slow.

“However, it is not enough to have access, you need affordability and access,” said the president, who added that his government is working with providers to lower the cost of what is already a domestic public service —such as water or gas— but which often commands a high price.

Monday’s announcement marks the start of the second phase of the administration’s tour called “Investing in America.” The rapid succession of speeches and political rallies over three weeks is designed to promote Biden’s previous legislative victories on infrastructure, the economy and climate change leading up to re-election.

Biden and his advisers believe voters do not know his policies well enough ahead of his 2024 re-election campaign and that more voters will support him as they learn more about them.

The challenge for Biden is that investments in computer chips and large infrastructure projects like rail tunnels could take a decade to come to fruition. That leaves much of the message to focus on grants that will be spent over time and not on completed projects.

Internet access funding amounts depended primarily on the number of unserved locations in each jurisdiction or those locations lacking access to data download speeds of at least 25 megabits per second and upload speeds of 3 mbps.

Download speed involves the retrieval of information from the internet, such as streaming movies and television. For its part, upload speed determines how quickly information travels from a computer to the internet, such as sending emails or posting photos online.
