For Bill Gates, the world must stop relying solely on the current electrical grid. The Microsoft co-founder believes that this type of energy is one of the causes of climate change and proposes the use of clean energy.

Gates published a new post on your blog Gates Notes, focusing on alternatives to the current electrical grid.

The billionaire points out that power plants are generators of pollution, above all, due to the form of transmission, which implies the use of fossil fuels.

“Climate change is the most difficult problem humanity has ever faced, but I believe we have the human ingenuity to solve it,” Gates says. “And if you’re concerned about climate change, you should be concerned about transmission. Simply put: transmission is key to our clean energy future.”

Bill Gates, concerned about electric vehicles… a criticism of Elon Musk?

Another thing that concerns Gates is the expansion of the use of electric vehicles. Without naming Elon Musk or Tesla, points out that As we “electrify more things (like our cars!)”, the demand for energy in the United States will increase.

“Many estimates suggest that the demand for electricity could more than double by 2050 until reaching net zero”, says the co-founder of Microsoft in his blog.

Cars like those made by Tesla need electrical power to charge. Although the interest is to stop using fossil fuel, in the long run it also ends up being harmful to the environment.

Bill Gates solutions

The proposal is the use of clean energy, such as wind, solar, nuclear and geothermal, which “it would reduce household costs, reduce pollution and diversify our energy supply so that we do not depend on anything”.

Also, ask adapt the North American energy network to our times, many of them installed in the 50s and 60s.

“The solution is clear: we need to upgrade our network, build more high-voltage transmission lines that can carry electricity over long distances and use those transmission lines to better connect regions and communities with each other,” says Gates.

“If we do that, we’ll make sure people always have power when they need it. And in the process, we will unleash the potential of affordable and abundant clean energy.”
