In the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers in the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, the score is 1-1 after two individual games on the first day of the game. The top players of both teams – Tatjana Maria and Beatriz Haddad Maia – got the two points for their teams.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Tatjana Maria defeated the Brazilian Laura Pigossi 6:3, 3:6, 7:5 and scored the first German point in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. The two opponents dueled for 2:32 hours before three consecutive game wins helped the Germans to victory. “At the end of the third set I decided to be aggressive. I adjusted my position a bit on the return game and wanted to make her think. Thank God it worked. I would have liked to just cry at the end,” explained Maria.

In the match before, Anna-Lena Friedsam kept it exciting for a long time. The German took the initiative against Beatriz Haddad Maia – number 14 in the world – at the start and made it 6: 3. “I got into the match very well, didn’t allow much and was very active,” said Friedsam. From the middle of the second half, Haddad Maia “dared a bit more and played incredibly at the beginning of the third set.” Consequently, the Brazilian turned the game around – final score 6:3, 4:6, 3:6.

Decision will be made on Saturday

Tomorrow there are (probably) two singles and one doubles on the program. The matches will determine which team will compete in November’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Remaining in the world group is at stake for the losers in the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs.

Einzel Nr. 4: Anna-Lena Friedsam vs. Laura Pigossi

Doubles: Jule Niemeier / Laura Siegemund vs. Beatriz Haddad Maia / Luisa Stefani

*The coaches have the option to change the line-up again for the second matchday. The double can be omitted if necessary.
