During the early morning of January 1, several sectors of the city of Buenos Aires suffered a blackout that was solved a few hours later, and the EDESUR company explained the reasons for the event that morning.

“Company technicians detected that a pyrotechnic balloon entered minutes after midnight in the inner courtyard of the Perito Moreno Substation,” the company revealed on its official Twitter account.

Further down, the company added that “this caused a short circuit that triggered the protections, leaving two high-voltage network transformers out of service.” The blackout occurred at approximately 12:23 a.m. Sunday, and service was restored three hours later.

Nearly 400,000 users were affected by the cuts that mainly impacted the neighborhoods of Caballito, Flores, Liniers, Mataderos, Almagro and Versalles.

Through his social networks, the controller of the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE), Walter Martello, indicated that “from #ENRE we have ordered the EDESUR and EDENOR Companies today to give an immediate response to the serious events of lack of service to initiate the corresponding actions”.
