Blinken pleads for a "responsible relationship" with China for the good of the international community

MADRID, July 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has asked China to contribute to the normalization of bilateral relations between the two countries as requested, in his opinion, by the allies of both countries in the international community.

“There is a clear demand, which I hear wherever I go, that the United States and China manage their relationship responsibly,” the Secretary of State explained in an interview with CNN broadcast this Sunday.

In the interview, Blinken commented on the succession of trips made in recent weeks to Beijing by White House officials, such as himself, the Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, or the special envoy for Climate, John Kerry, after months of estrangement over the status of Taiwan or the controversial “Chinese spy balloon” — meteorological satellite, according to Beijing — shot down by the US at the beginning of the year.

“I at least see it as an attempt to provide some stability,” Blinken explained about these visits, which he broadly described as “the first days of promoting a closer dialogue between the two countries.”

The Secretary of State has reiterated in this sense that China’s allies are asking “clearly and forcefully” for Beijing to commit to these efforts in an exercise of “responsibility”.
