Blizzard has previously promised to improve matchmaking and ranked modes for Overwatch 2 starting with the upcoming season three. Now the Californian developer has revealed what some of these changes will be in the latest the developer blog.

Among other things, we learn that the development team is “aware of some community pain points with competition and matchmaking” and that this will be addressed by reducing the number of matches you need to change ranks starting in season three. This should reduce from seven wins to five wins, while losses are reduced from 20 to 15 losses, whichever you reach first.

In addition, changes are planned to benefit each respective role, which can hopefully encourage more people to dive in and try the currently miserable support role. The blog post also states that season four will include additional tweaks, including “additional information about your current wins and losses on the competitive update screens” and “longer-term features and updates for both the matchmaker and competitive game mode” – so it is clearly part of a long-term effort.
