Blueberries, grapes and coffee were the products with the highest sales for Peruvian agricultural exports.

The Peruvian agricultural exports reached USD 10,421 million for the first time at the end of 2022, which meant an increase of 13.6% compared to sales registered in the same period of 2021, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

Between January and December 2022, only the traditional agricultural exports reached USD 1,340 million, a figure that represented an increase of 58.9% compared to what was registered in 2021.

In that sense, the traditional agricultural exports were driven by higher recorded shipments of coffee non-roasted and non-decaffeinated for USD 1,221 million (91.1% share), a record figure that had not been recorded for this product since 2012 when there were problems due to the presence of yellow rust.

In addition, the cane sugars or refined beets for USD 72 million (5.4% participation), the other cane sugars for US$ 11 million (0.8% participation) also triggered the sector.

While the non-traditional agricultural exports they totaled USD 9,080 million, a figure 9.0% higher than what was observed during 2021, according to Midagri data.

Given this result, the main ranking products agro-exporter in that period were red cranberries fresh for USD 1,364 million (15.0% participation); fresh grapes for USD 1,364 million (15.0%), avocados for USD 895 million (9.9%) and fresh or refrigerated asparagus for USD 372 million (4.1%).

Also highlighted are the placements of fresh mangoes for USD 301 million (3.3%); animal feed preparations for USD 264 million (2.9%); other citrus for USD 178 million (2.0%); other cocoa beans for USD 159 million (1.7%); ethyl alcohol for USD 157 million (1.7%); frozen mango for USD 148 million (1.6%); artichokes for USD 129 million (1.4%) and crude palm oil for USD 125 million (1.4%).

On the other hand, the main destination markets of Peruvian products were the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Ecuador, China, England, Germany, Chile, Mexico, Colombia. This group of countries concentrated 77.1% of the total value exported in 2022.

In this way, the Minister of the sector, Nelly Paredeshighlighted the extraordinary behavior of national agriculture and the agroexports during 2022, despite the problems generated by the fertilizer hike and the severe droughtwhich affected various regions of the country.

Also, he specified that the figures of the agroexports registered last year, ratify Peru as an important pantry of food to the main markets of the world, driven primarily by small farmer organizations.

In addition, Paredes indicated that his ministry will continue to support the agricultural sector with the implementation of reactivating measures, such as the plan ‘With Punche Peru’, which will inject S/ 1,100 million, where S/ 800 million are contemplated for the execution of irrigation infrastructure projects.

According to Midagri, the agricultural sector closed 2022 with a growth of 4.3%, driven by higher agricultural production, such as raw cotton, which increased +158% (greater area planted and harvested in Piura, Ica and Lambayeque); olives +54.4% (favorable weather conditions in Tacna and Arequipa), and blueberries at +28.2% (larger production area in La Libertad, Lambayeque and Ica), among other products.

To boost agricultural sales, the Minister of Production, Raúl Pérez-Reyesannounced that it has been launched from the platform ‘Digital Producer’as a digital solution to bring the offer of agricultural producers closer to the mypes buyers of food by volume, optimizing times, guaranteeing safety and competitive prices in the market.

In a first stage, this system of digital shopping plans to connect the demand for food with more than 200,000 organic producersfamily and hydrobiological from the different regions of the country, mainly producers of family farming, which represent 97% of the universe of producers in the country.
