Presented globally in February, the new BMW X5 and X6 finally arrived in Brazil. The two models produced at the factory in Spartanburg, in the United States, gained updates in both the exterior and interior design, in addition to new engine configurations and a lot of technology.

In visual terms, the new BMW X5 gained unprecedented headlights at the front, 35 mm thinner than the previous ones, in addition to the already established double kidney grille. The chrome-effect air intakes also give the model an “avant-garde” aura, which is more robust than ever.

The X6 followed the same recipe applied by BMW in the “brother”, with more tapered headlights, daytime running lights in the shape of a seven and an illuminated grille (except in the X6 M). The rear bumper also gained a new design to highlight the new trapeze-shaped exhaust tips.

The interior design was also worked on by BMW, which incorporated the Curved Display to the X5 and X6, already seen by the Canaltech in the tests with the iX. It consists of a 12.3-inch information screen behind the steering wheel and another 14.9-inch screen that acts as a multimedia center.

BMW X5 and X6: new engine and absurd power

BMW was not only concerned with the appearance of the new X5 and X6 that are arriving in Brazil. The German automaker made the two models even more powerful and efficient, thanks to the complete overhaul of the engines.

The BMW X5 plug-in hybrid now features a 313hp in-line six-cylinder gasoline engine working in tandem with a 197hp electric motor. Together, they deliver 489hp to the driver’s hands, 96hp more than the previous version. The combined torque rose 10.1 kgf/m and today is 71.3 kgf/m.

The mechanical set of the BMW X5 xDrive50e is completed with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, which helps the SUV accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The exclusively electric range of the model varies between 79 km (PBEV) and 110 km (WLTP), according to the automaker.

The BMW X6 is not far behind. The new engine received innovations in the combustion process, gas exchange, valve control, injection and ignition system. The result was a power gain of 47hp, which is now 381hp, with torque of 53 kgf/m.

The X6 M Competition variant follows with the 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 under the hood. The model delivers 625hp of power at 6,000 rpm and 76.4 kgf/m of torque, achieved in the range between 1,800 and 5,860 rpm.

Cutting-edge technology in both

The technology and connectivity package of the new BMW X5 and X6 for sale in Brazil is excellent. Both come with the Digital Key plus that replaces the vehicle’s physical keys for opening the doors and starting the engine. The technology is available for compatible Apple and Samsung models.

The cars also have the following items or features:

  • BMW Comfort Access 2.0: unlocks and turns on welcome lights when approaching the car and locks the vehicle when moving away without having to touch the key, in addition to allowing the trunk to be opened by bringing the foot closer to the bumper rear;
  • Adaptive Full LED headlights;
  • Air conditioning with four-zone automatic digital control;
  • Parking Assistant Professional system, which parks the vehicle for the driver, allows a 360° view of the vehicle and its surroundings;
  • Reversing Assist, which reverses the last 50 meters traveled by the vehicle;
  • Driving Assistant Professional: informs the driver, through visual and audible alerts, of cross traffic conditions, risks of rear collision, involuntary lane changes and frontal approach control and prevention,
