Boat stolen in Bimini in migrant smuggling operation that ended in Miami Beach

This weekend, images recorded by some bathers showed the desperate arrival of a possible group of migrants on the beaches of Miami Beach. This Wednesday, we have the testimony of who claims to be the owner of the boat that would have been stolen in the Bahamas.

Jason Cana-Dee, the alleged owner of the boat, denounces that it was stolen on Bimini Island, in the Bahamas, during his birthday celebration that he shared with his daughter and several of his friends.

He claims his boat was taken out of the marina around 3 a.m. Sunday and those who took it didn’t get to it by walking across the pier but in a kayak that had also allegedly been stolen from a rental shop.

At a distance of just over 50 miles east of Miami, the island of Bimini, in the western Bahamas, is the closest territory from the Bahamas to the United States.

The duration of this tour in a speedboat could take about 2 hours, that would be the time it took to get to Miami Beach, the group of people who were seen getting off the boat this weekend on a Florida beach.

“That day when the officers from the Miami Beach Police Department arrived, no one was there anymore and only the boat was left,” explains Cana-Dee, the owner of the stolen boat.

The coast guard notified that the boat was recovered at the same point where it ran aground, between 37th and 39th streets with Collins Avenue.

Jason recounts that on his boat they found passports of Chinese citizens, which for him indicates that it was a human smuggling operation.

But this is not the first time that a group of irregular migrants have arrived on Florida beaches in this type of boat. On May 28, 19 Haitian migrants arrived in another boat. And a month earlier, on April 29, another 13 migrants arrived, but this time from Cuba, Ecuador, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and China.
