Governor says schools are ready for the new semester

At the beginning of the new school year, Governor Pedro R. Pierluisi, accompanied by the Secretary of the Department of Education (DE), Yanira Raíces Vega, and the Mayor of Camuy, Gabriel Hernández Rodríguez, visited the Pedro Amador and Amalia López de Ávila schools. where he interacted with students and teachers.

The governor assured that most of the schools were prepared for the start of the new school semester, contrary to what the president of the Teachers Association, Víctor Bonilla Sánchez, indicated.

“I respect the president’s right to expression, but that is totally out of proportion and it is to a certain extent a lack of respect for the DE team, the secretary and this server,” said the president.

On the other hand, the figures show that student enrollment continues to decline. Twenty years ago, it reached almost 660,000 students, while today the public system has around 250,600.
