Boris Becker was in prison in England for seven and a half months because he had hidden assets worth millions from his insolvency administrators. He’s been a free man for almost three weeks now and it wasn’t long before the former tennis superstar sought the public spotlight again.

Shortly before Christmas he gave the broadcaster Sat.1 a well-received interview in which he reported emotionally about his imprisonment. And his next TV appearance is coming up soon: From January 16, Boris Becker will return to the Eurosport team for the Australian Open.

Boris Becker is working on his rehabilitation

Just in time for the Grand Slam comeback of the long injured Alexander Zverev, Germany’s currently best tennis player, Boris Becker is also returning. Another step back to normality for the youngest Wimbledon winner of all time (1985, at the age of 17).

However, the 55-year-old has lost another of his TV jobs. Because not all broadcasters, like Eurosport, give the expert trying to rehabilitate the chance of a comeback.

For the time being, the BBC will not rely on Boris Becker as an expert. “We currently have no plans to work with Boris Becker,” the British broadcaster said.sports pictureThe British newspaper “Times” also reported that the BBC had no interest in Becker being added via video as an expert on the Wimbledon broadcasts in July.

The reason: The BBC experts are supposed to comment on what is happening on site, but Becker is not allowed to enter Great Britain due to his prison sentence.

Entry restrictions cost Becker a job

His prison sentence there runs until the end of October 2024. The provisional release to Germany was only possible because Becker was deported as a foreign prisoner in order to relieve British prisons.

For Eurosport, Boris Becker will probably not be able to comment on the Australian Open either. In Australia it is very difficult for former prisoners to enter the country.

Anyone who has been sentenced to at least a year in prison must prove that he or she is of “good character” in order to obtain a visa – a process that is extremely lengthy.
