In all families there are some relationships more complicated than others. And if you don’t believe me, think twice.

It turns out that Edward Covarrubia, 32, of Brownsville, was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly shot his brother-in-law to scare him during a family altercation that occurred on Paso Real highway, reports Eric Garza, Cameron County Sheriff.

The incident occurred on June 8, 2023 and it was one of those involved in the incident who called the authorities to report that he had been shot. In addition, he identified Covarrubias as his attacker.

Upon arrival, Cameron County Sheriff’s Office deputies found two bullet casings and blood in the driveway. In an effort to locate the victim, police officers patrolled the area but were unable to find him.

Due to the nature of the call, the agents entered the residence where they found blood and arrested Covarrubias. During the investigation, officers obtained witness statements “corroborating” the victim’s initial claim about the shooting, the news release said.

Agents later located the victim, who suffered a head laceration due to a physical altercation with Covarrubias and did not suffer a gunshot wound. Additionally, Covarrubias allegedly admitted to possessing a gun and shooting into the air to scare his brother-in-law. The gun and casings were recovered.
