The ransacked University of Caen will not reopen until September, according to the director. It had been occupied for several weeks as part of the mobilization against the pension reform.

After six weeks of occupation, building E of the faculty of Caen (Calvados) was evacuated on the morning of Monday April 17. The damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros. The resumption of classes is not “not possible before the start of the school year in September”according to the president of theuniversitéLamri Adoui.

The university files a complaint


Since March 6, a collective composed mainly of students occupied the building night and day. He intended to protest against the pension reform and student precariousness. “They talk about damage, they talk about tags, we talk about drawings, we talk about reclaiming places”, confides a student. The faculty of Caen considered that the security conditions were no longer met and requested the evacuation. The university filed a complaint.
