With the drought and the heat increased the presence of cyanobacteria in rivers and lagoons of Buenos Airesand this Saturday the Buenos Aires Undersecretary of Water Resources issued a red alert for the presence of these algae that applies to the town of Quilmes and the Canal access to the Port in Ensenadaand maintains the orange level for spas on the Río de las Platas.
“The red alert level means high risk and is issued when the water looks like a dark green, brownish or reddish mass, with the appearance of thick cream”informed the Interinstitutional Board of Cyanobacteria.
In the current situation the water should not be used for direct consumption or for personal hygiene, and it is recommended to keep children and pets away until the bloom disappears and not eat food that comes from the Río de la Plata.
In the Early Warning System for Cyanobacteria, it can be consulted by its presence and alert color. In addition, on the Buenos Aires coast there are health flags that inform about the situation. There, the state of the algae on the coast of the Río de La Plata and Buenos Aires lagoons can be observed through the Ciano Semáforo.
In addition, the level of Orange alert for spas of the Río de la Plata and lagoons of the province of Buenos Aires. In those places the water appears bright green on the surface and in the sand, but not in a continuous layer. “It is recommended to avoid contact with green stains, wash with clean water in case of entering the river or lagoon.”

The most affected points located on the coast of the Río de La Plata are the towns of Avellaneda, Quilmes, and the Hudson spa in Berazategui.
Meanwhile, in the town of Ensenada maintains the “orange” level in the spas La Pergola, Coastal Viewpoint, Parador II, and Club Regatas.
