The portfolio of Gelsenkirchener Gelsenwasser AG is growing. The company has taken over the majority of IT operations in Gelsen-Net.

The ownership structure of the Gelsenkirchen-based IT service provider “Gelsen-Net” has changed. Gelsenwasser AG has held around 51 percent of the shares in the telecommunications company since January 2 of this year, and Stadtwerke Gelsenkirchen only around 49 percent.

Gelsenwasser AG now holds 51 percent of the shares in Gelsen-Net

“With the transfer of shares, we have secured the future of ‘Gelsen-Net’,” says Harald Förster, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Gelsenkirchen GmbH. Thanks to the financial strength and the large network of the majority shareholder Gelsenwasser, which recently recorded a jump in sales from 1.7 billion euros to 6.3 billion euros in 2021, growth plans are now to be implemented in concrete terms.

The increase in shares is now followed by a multi-year project to intensify the cooperation between Gelsen-Net and Gelsenwasser. “This applies, for example, to cooperation through mutual services,” says Gelsen-Net Managing Director Thomas Dettenberg. Gelsen-Net will provide additional services to Gelsenwasser in the future.

At the same time, Gelsenwasser will gradually take over the commercial management of Gelsen-Net. “We are also moving our headquarters to the Gelsenwasser district on Willy-Brandt-Allee this year,” Dettenberg continued.

Gelsenwasser boss Henning Deters links the spatially closer cooperation “also to greater possibilities in the development of our smart city offer.” The Gelsenkirchen-based group now has 64 companies and 46 other holdings. 1638 people worked for Gelsenwasser last year (2020: 1595), at least 6474 (5588) for the group.

Gelsen-Net employs 110 people and is active in the region in the business areas of fiber optic internet, telephony, television, site networking, smart city solutions and cloud services.
