As predicted by the rumor mill, Nvidia recently announced the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti. Technically, this is the much-discussed Geforce RTX 4080 12 GB. PC gamers who want to upgrade probably remember: Nvidia announced it as an alternative to the Geforce RTX 4080 16 GB, but withdrew the pixel accelerator without further ado. Apparently the criticism of the graphics card, which differed not only in terms of memory, was too great. Now it returns as the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti – and ideally you can buy it directly at the launch on January 5th at a recommended retail price of 899 euros. This would make it significantly cheaper than its big siblings, namely the Geforce RTX 4090 with an RRP of 1,859 euros and the Geforce RTX 4080 for 1,399 euros. But can you really buy the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti in a timely manner for a comparatively cheap 899 euros? And what about the Radeon RX 7900 XT if you put a cheap competitor in front of it?

Hardly available for weeks and months and massively overpriced, that is a thing of the past in extreme form. The launches of the Geforce RTX 4080 and 4090 as well as the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX went smoothly again, but not ideal for bargain hunters. In the meantime, a lot of goods were sold out. For example, the Radeon 7900 XTX was left dry for longer, while its little sister was not available everywhere, but was generally available. In principle, players who want to strike promptly should not wait too long. New GPUs have often sold out quickly in the past.

With the Ada Lovelace newcomer, we can give the all-clear, at least with a view to manufacturer cards. Because the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is available as a custom model right at the market launch. It remains to be seen how widespread this will be at launch. In any case, it is certain that Nvidia does provide reference specifications for technical data, but does not present a reference design according to the current status.

Buying a Geforce RTX 4070 Ti: Pros and cons of the lack of custom design for the price

Whether the manufacturers deliver on time is of course another matter. Gamers looking to buy a Geforce RTX 4070 Ti might well benefit from Nvidia retiring the 12GB Geforce RTX 4080. According to reports, manufacturers had already launched partner designs at the time. That was months ago and, in the case of the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti, could have been a decisive time advantage in the production of custom designs. As a result, they may now be plentiful. Of course, the missing reference model has a catch: the RRP specified by Nvidia refers to that ultimately only fictitious graphics card model. However, models with a higher clock and greater TDP range should stand out from the official price expectations anyway, graphics cards with a simpler design do not necessarily have to. Starting tomorrow you can buy the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti – probably again from 3 p.m. It is only at this point in time that the first well-founded feedback can be obtained.

Geforce RTX 4070 Ti already listed: These shops could deliver – but also cheap?

Experience has shown that the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is more available from some retailers than others. This year Caseking has pushed ahead and is already presenting various custom designs, but the shop is sticking to the delivery embargo and is not yet selling any of the new graphics cards. Currently the cheapest is the Gigabyte Geforce RTX 4070 Ti Eagle OC 12G Trinity with reference clock rates and standard TBP of 285 watts. Caseking has them for 969 euros listed, which is 70 euros above the RRP. Behind it and also with reference values, but with its own cooling, follows the Zotac Gaming Geforce RTX 4070 Ti Trinity for currently 979 euros. Caseking has the Zotac for the most money Gaming Geforce RTX 4070 Ti AMP Extreme Airo – it costs 1,129 euros. The Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is also already listed at Proshop, where they start GPUs at 999 euros. We can only speculate about the provisional prices and the availability of the GPUs. However, it is already clear which Geforce RTX 4070 Ti can be located more in the RRP area than others.

Experience has shown that the chances of buying an RTX 4070 Ti could be greatest at the following shops:

Buy Geforce RTX 4070 Ti: RTX 4080 and 4090 stable in price before the launch

Since their launch last October or November, there have already been official price reductions on the part of the Geforce RTX 4080 and 4090: The Geforce RTX 4090 is now listed at 1,859 euros, while the original RRP was 1,949 euros. In contrast, Nvidia lists the Geforce RTX 4080 for 1,399 instead of 1,469 euros. Ultimately, however, Nvidia only reacted to the changed exchange rates between the euro and the US dollar. According to the PCGH price comparison, the cheapest model costs the PNY Geforce RTX 4080 Verto Triple Fannow only 1,332.99 euros, while for popular models (according to access numbers) like the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 Gaming X Trio 16G is sometimes a bit above the RRP. You can currently get them at the best price Mind factory for 1,418 euros. Overall, the price of the Geforce RTX 4080 has been stable since at least Christmas, even if there is a slight downward trend. The announcement of the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is therefore not yet reflected in the prices. The Geforce RTX 4090 also appears unimpressed by the upcoming launch of its little sister. 1,928 euros costs her at least and thus still more as they it should do according to the RRP. Popular models often change hands for over 2,000 euros.

Geforce RTX 4070 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XT: More and more Radeons are slipping below RRP

The comparison with the Radeon RX 7900 XT should be more exciting: AMD places its XTX model as a competitor to the Geforce RTX 4080 and not to the RTX 4090, so the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is the declared opponent of AMD’s second fastest gaming graphics card . In terms of price, this is not necessarily the case, because AMD’s RRP is 1,049.99 euros, Nvidia’s for the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti at 899 euros. However, it is noticeable that more and more models are tearing down the 1,000 euro mark. Mindfactory lists the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT Gaming at 989 euros at the new best pricealso eBay -dealer, cyberport and notebooks cheaper sell them for less than 1,000 euros. For a short time there was a model from XFX for 969 euros even cheaper, but the graphics card is now sold out. The cheapest custom model is the Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT Hellhound, you can buy it 1029.99 euros on Ebay and 1,059 euros at Mindfactory to buy. The Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT Red Devil, which is also the currently cheapest provider for 1,199 euros. For the sake of completeness, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX should also be mentioned: It should actually be found on the virtual retailer shelves for 1,149 euros, but it currently costs at least 1349.00 euros.

We have not been able to observe a noticeable price development since the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti was announced, but it is always pleasing that at least the reference cards of the Radeon RX 7900 XT are in some cases significantly below the RRP. Since the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti turned out to be a potent opponent of the Radeon RX 7900 XT (more on this in the last paragraph or directly at PCGH), but we could certainly imagine even greater price corrections – especially because of the expected great competition from custom designs.

Geforce RTX 4070 Ti in the test: This is what the 899-euro graphics card offers

As expected, the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti goes on sale with 7,680 FP32 shaders. This is joined by 12 GiB of GDDR6X memory, which is specified as 21 Gb/s. According to the reference specifications, the base clock is 2,310 MHz; the boost clock at 2,700 MHz. Nvidia promises that the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti will be faster than the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti while consuming half the power. Officially, 40 TFlops of raster performance, 93 TFlops of raytracing performance and 619 TFlops of the tensor units are reported.

The colleagues from PC Games Hardware have already put the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti through its paces. In the test, the graphics card, which costs around 900 euros, proved to be extremely efficient, even if it ended up just behind the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti in terms of performance. The Geforce RTX 4070 Ti not only offers the highest raytracing performance per euro, it also comes with an excellent price-performance ratio when it comes to rasterization. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is an average of 12 percent faster when rasterizing, but requires 20 percent more energy and is (still) almost 1,000 euros more expensive. You can find out more details in the test by colleagues.
