Surprisingly, another BVB professional has now revealed a tumor finding. Former national player Emre Can spoke publicly about his illness for the first time in an interview with the streaming service Dazn.

The midfielder explained that the condition was discovered when he joined Juventus from Liverpool in 2018. “I had a tumor in my thyroid gland and needed an urgent operation. The thyroid had to come out. That changed a lot in my life,” explained Can.

As a result, he also found that he could still have so much money, “but health is the most important thing”. The illness was not life-threatening. As a result, he now has to take pills in the morning for the rest of his life to compensate for the lack of hormones from the thyroid. In addition, there are regular check-ups.

“It’s part of life. I advise everyone, no matter how healthy they are. If you notice such things in time, you can act. It was on time for me and I’m extremely grateful to the doctors for that.”

“I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know anything about it.”

Emre Can on his reaction when he found out about the tumor.

In an interview, Can describes the moment when he found out that he had a tumor near the vocal cords: “I didn’t even know what was going on. I wasn’t familiar with it, I’ve never heard of a thyroid gland and I knew it not that there can be a tumor.”

Can coped well with the surgery four years ago, then played for Juventus Turin until 2020 and then switched to Borussia Dortmund. The 37-time German national player is still under contract with BVB until 2024, but has lost his role as the undisputed regular player. He only plays 30 percent of all game minutes. Due to his estimated salary of around ten million euros, there are always rumors that Dortmund would like to sell the 29-year-old to save costs.
