The Confederation of African Football has decided to disqualify the national team of DR Congo U23 from the qualifiers for CAN-2023 which will take place in Morocco. And this following the reservations made by the Algerian football federation. The U23 national team should win the match on green carpet and thus qualify for the last round of the playoffs against their counterpart from Ghana.

The Algerian U23 national team was eliminated against its Congolese counterpart from CAN-2023 which will take place in Morocco next June. The victory in the return match (3-1) in Algiers was not enough to turn the tide on the Congolese after the defeat in the first leg (4-1).

But CAF decided to disqualify the Congolese U23 selection. And this, following reservations made by the FAF. Indeed, an offense dating from the second round of the CAN 2019 qualifiers de facto eliminated the DRC which had aligned at the time Arsène Zola, a player whose date of birth was incorrect. The player could not play. And Morocco, adversary of the Congo at the time won the case. CAF pronounced the qualification of Morocco on green carpet and an exclusion of the DRC for the following edition.

Thus, the first instance of Algerian football relied on this strong argument to file a request validated by the African body.

The CAF seized the FAF

Until the time of going to press, the Algerian federation has not communicated anything on its official website. But according to our colleague from Canal Algérie, Said Fellak, known for his credible information, the FAF was the recipient of correspondence from CAF. Indeed, the latter informed him of the qualification of EN U23 for the third and final round of the qualifiers for CAN-2023. And this at the expense of DR Congo who lost the return match on green carpet.

Still awaiting confirmation from the FAF, the U23 national team will face Ghana next March, on behalf of the third and final round of playoffs. The Olympic selection will be led by Nouredine Ould Ali.
