Algeria is more determined than ever to organize an African Cup of Nations before 2030. Our country is not only a candidate to host CAN-2025, but also for that of 2027.

Last December, the Algerian Football Federation submitted the application file to host CAN-2025. It is next summer that the CAF executive committee will announce the host country, after tough competition with Morocco in particular.

But our country has left nothing to chance in the event that it does not have the honor of hosting the 35th edition of the CAN. Indeed, Algeria is officially a candidate to host CAN-2027.

“CAF has received expressions of interest from six countries as part of the bidding process for the organization of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. At the expiry of the deadline set by the administration, the CAF registered four different applications. The candidate nations are: Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania (joint candidacy)”. Announced CAF on its official website.

African football’s premier body also announces that 23 May 2023 is the deadline by which member associations must submit their final bid, including all bidding and hosting documents (framework agreement, host city agreement, guarantees government, etc.), which must be duly signed. The inspection visits will be between June 1 and July 15, 2023. As for the date of the announcement of the organizing country will be communicated later.

CAN-2023 in Algeria? A manager at the FAF responds

Information has been relayed by several media reporting CAF’s desire to award the organization of CAN-2023 for Algeria to the detriment of Côte d’Ivoire, whose construction work is behind schedule.

“It’s just rumours. As a football federation, we only communicate with official things (…) CAF has not announced anything to us concerning the organization of CAN-2023. Even the general secretary of CAF told us nothing about this subject during his last visit to Algeria”. FAF spokesperson Salah Bey Aboud said.

“Perhaps we want to put pressure on Côte d’Ivoire. But Algeria has no intention of replacing her”. He added.

Finally, he concludes: “The FAF maintains very good relations with all the federations of African countries”.
