The prosecutor investigating Trump reviewed his Twitter account with a search warrant

MADRID, 9 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The special prosecutor’s office investigating former US President Donald Trump obtained a search warrant to examine the tycoon’s Twitter account for evidence, which also resulted in a clash with the social network itself, now called X, due to the secrecy of ongoing legal proceedings.

Prosecutor Jack Smith requested this record in January 2023, but it has not come to light until it was made public this Wednesday by an appeals court that has ratified a previous ruling that prevented the social network from informing Trump of the current order.

The Justice understands that this secrecy was necessary due to the risk that the former president could “destroy” evidence, “change patterns of behavior” or alert other people, reports the North American chain CNN.

The company has also been fined $350,000 for delaying the delivery of the required information, which included “data and records” linked to Trump’s account, which has been inactive since January 2021. Trump, once banned from the main networks for the content of his messages, he has promoted his own network, named Truth Social.

The former tenant of the White House accumulates three criminal proceedings, including one related to the assault on the Capitol in January 2021, which, with four charges, could lead to a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. The Prosecutor’s Office considers that he lied in relation to the alleged electoral fraud and promoted messages that ended up encouraging said assault to avoid ratifying the victory of the current president, Joe Biden.
