Canada receives remains of the Titan submersible after its implosion

OTTAWA.- The ship Horizon Arctic unloaded this Wednesday in the port of the Canadian Coast Guard Saint John the remains of the submersible Titan recovered after it imploded ten days ago at the start of an expedition to visit the remains of the Titanic in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Canadian authorities now have the submersible’s nose, parts of the hull and tail section in their possession. It is estimated that these remains are relevant and can facilitate the investigation of the event, in which the five members of the expedition died, including the pilot of the submersible.

The investigation of the event corresponds to the Transportation Safety Board of the United States and Canada, as well as the US Coast Guard and the Canadian Mounted Police, CBC radio television reported.

The submersible lost contact with the tour operator an hour and 45 minutes after the two-hour descent to the wreck, the vessel was reported missing eight hours after communication was lost.

The deceased are the British adventurer Hamish Harding, Shahzada and Suleman Dawood, the executive director of the company responsible for the ship, Stockton Rush, and the French citizen Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
