Torreón, Coahuila.- Corruption and the mega-debt of Coahuila, known as the “Moreirazo”, were two of the issues that stood out in the first debate held by the four candidates for the Coahuila Governorship towards the June 4 elections. .

Manolo Jiménez, standard-bearer of the PRI, PAN and PRD Alliance, was the one who received the most attacks from the other candidates, mainly from Ricardo Mejía, from the Labor Party; followed by Armando Guadiana, from Morena, and to a lesser extent by Lenin Pérez, from PVEM and the Democratic Unity of Coahuila (UDC).

Guadiana resorted to disqualifying words every chance he got, calling Mejía a “traitor”; “palero” to Pérez and “Nuevo Peña Nieto” or “Peña Nieto de los Moreira” to Jiménez.

The journalists Javier Solórzano and Sandra Romandía were the moderators of this debate that was held at the Teatro Nazas, with the assistance of hundreds of special guests, mainly from the private initiative, academic institutions and political parties.

Minutes before starting the debate, which lasted for almost two hours, Solórzano invited the audience to cheer and cheer on the candidates so that once it had started they would refrain from doing so, mostly responding to their support for the PRI by shouting “Manolo, Manolo!”

The candidates had the opportunity to present their proposals on the topics of “Finance, Accountability and Transparency” and “Water, Sustainable Development, Education, Children and Youth”.
