Canirac launches against the Anti-Tobacco Law in Cancun.
On January 16, the regulations of the General Law for Tobacco Controlwhich prohibits smoking in public and closed spaces, such as restaurants, hotels, beaches, parks, this despite the fact that there are exclusive areas for it.
One month after the Anti-Tobacco Law came into force, the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) in cancun will enter this Friday the first 20 appeals against the regulation, hoping that they have a positive resolution.
The president of Canirac in this tourist destination, Julio Villarreal Zapata, reported that this will be a first package, since another one will enter the following week, to reach 40, which he stated are well-founded “so as not to have a legal setback.”
“The term is until February 24 and that is why we are presenting the guarantee trial. We already have the protections in place, complete and well-founded. We hope they have a good result in favor of the sector, but above all so that citizens can choose whether or not to smoke, as has already been done ”, he explained.

The two-month delay announced by the coordination of the central zone of the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) is not official, since it was not published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, which would leave them vulnerable, therefore It is that the restaurateurs were asked not to trust themselves and if they see it admissible, the best option would be protection.
Although there is a precedent of an amparo in the Mexican Caribbean that did not prosper, there are cases at the national level that were granted, so, according to Julio Villarreal, they are confident that they will be given the reason to continue operations as they did before.
