Capcom has announced a new Street Fighter game, Street Fighter: Duel, which is going to be very different from your typical Street Fighter game. Street Fighter: Duel is a mobile RPG game that will also be free.

Street Fighter: Duel is given due to the collaboration between Capcom and Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll describes it as “the first RPG in the series”, but some of the franchise’s signature combat is also included in this game.

Crunchyroll is perhaps the biggest name in anime outside of Japan, and the company has been very busy offering a huge catalog of anime. He has also worked on previous mobile game titles that used large anime IPs, such as My Hero Academia and Naruto.

The trailer shows Ryu standing in a dark void, accompanied only by the excellent Street Fighter music and arcade action sounds of the series, before spinning around and charging up a massive Hadoken.

He’s then joined by fan favorites Chun-Li, Ken and Blanka, all sporting a toy-like glow to their character models. A splash screen then appears with more characters in a more typical concept art style, announcing the title, “Street Fighter: Duel” and the ability to pre-register for February on Android or iOS.

Although this creates expectation, the trailer unfortunately does not add much about the gameplay. Crunchyroll’s website offers more details, stating that players will “travel across the globe to recruit and level up iconic characters from across the Street Fighter series.”
