Car crashes into restaurant, injuring 20 people

At 6:30 p.m., the restaurant was packed when a car interrupted dinner and wiped out everything in its path.

Around 20 people were injured. Of those 20, 12 were transferred, including two patients who were pregnant. All patients were taken to Westside Regional and Broward Health downtown.

It happened near University Drive and West Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation.

The driver was trying to park the car and somehow crashed into the building after apparently mistaking the brake for the accelerator.

“Of the 20 injured people, eight of them refused to be transferred. There were about 12 that were transported, so those injuries range from abrasions to some that were a little more severely injured,” police said.

The Plantation Fire Department confirmed to us that the two pregnant women are doing well.
