English footballer Mason Greenwood and Manchester United reached a “mutual agreement” to end their employment relationship after at least six months of internal investigation into alleged cases of sexual abuse reported by her then partner.
As announced this Monday by the English club, se came to “the conclusion that the material published on the Internet did not give a complete picture and that Mason did not commit the crimes of which he was originally accused.
“Mason made mistakes for which he is responsible, as he himself publicly acknowledged,” the club said.
The club also added that “All those involved recognize the difficulties for him (Greenwood) to restart his career at Manchester United. Therefore, it was mutually agreed that the most appropriate thing for him would be to move away from Old Trafford. Now we will work together with the footballer to reach that result”.
Greenwood was detained by UK security authorities in January 2022. charged with charges of rape, sexual assault, death threats, and coercive and controlling behavior.
but these charges were dropped and the player is not facing any trial or criminal proceedings.
However the Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February 2023 that all charges against the 21-year-old footballer were dropped.
