Our Puerto Rican athletes shone in their respective disciplines during Saturday at the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

In the weightlifting discipline, Howard Roche got the bronze medal. The feat was carried out in the division of the 55 kilograms snatch event, which opened the action in the Cuna del Mágico González.

“This medal means a lot of sacrifice. I dedicate it to my two girls, my family, my coaches, and the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, which has helped me throughout this process.” Roche indicated.

In the swimming discipline, Jarod Arroyo, Kristen Romano and Yeziel Morales went to the final. In the 200m Butterfly, ours, Yeziel Morales brought the third medal of the day: silver with a time of 1:59:05.

Meanwhile, the judoka Francine Echevarría got the bronze medal in the -52kg division by beating the Dominican Coral Velasquez.

Tennis cousins ​​Brian Afanador and Adriana Díaz added another bronze in the mixed doubles event. The Puerto Ricans in the round of 16 defeated the Dominicans Yasiris Ortiz and Jiaji Wu, 3-1. In the quarterfinals they scored the victory over Mariangel Díaz and Raymundo Medina of Venezuela, 3-1.

The road became steep when they faced the Mexicans Yadira Silva and Marcos Madriz, losing 3-2.

Puerto Rico already accumulates six medals: 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.

In addition, in women’s beach volleyball, Alanis Navas and María González advanced to the semifinals after defeating the Venezuelan team 2-0. They are the first Puerto Ricans to achieve it.

In the same discipline, but for men, Puerto Ricans Kevin Rodríguez and Josué Rivera beat CCS in two sets and went to the semifinals.

In handball, the PUR team was victorious against the Colombian team with a score of 35-34.

The gymnast José López also got a pass to the quarterfinals.
