The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, number one in the world, announced this Friday that he suffered an injury to the semimembranosus muscle in his right leg in training and will not be able to play the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne.

“When I was in my best moment of the preseason, I injured myself in a fortuitous and forced gesture while training, this time in the semimembranosus muscle of my right leg. I had worked a lot to reach my best level in Australia“, indicated the Spaniard in his personal account of Twitter.

And he added: “Unfortunately I won’t be able to play either the Care A2+ Kooyong or the Australian Open. It’s a hard time, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. See you in 2024.”

It should be remembered that Alcaraz had suffered an abdominal tear at the end of last season that prevented him from playing both the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals.

Alcaraz, who became the youngest world number one in history, had scheduled his third participation in it Melbourne Park, scene of the Australian Open. In the first edition that he played on oceanic lands, after playing the previous phase, he lost in the second round against the Swede Mikael Ymer, while in the last edition he lost in the third round against the Italian Matteo Berrettini.
