Carnes awards honorary Palm de Oro to Japanese animation studio

CANNES.- The legendary study of animation japanese Ghibli, who has made generations of children dream with films like My neighbor Totorobecame this Monday the first group to receive a Palme d’Or honorific in Cannes.

The Oscar-winning studio was founded 40 years ago and has won public favor for masterpieces such as Spirited Away y The moving castle.

Hayao Miyazaki, the 83-year-old co-founder of Ghibli, did not attend the French festival. His son Goro Miyazaki received the award, which is normally given to individuals.

Tributes in Cannes

In a video message broadcast during the ceremony, Hayao Miyazaki joked about his son’s decision to go get the Palm (“I pity him”), which made the audience laugh. Then he thanked me for the award.
