In just three weeks, both sides have broken agreed ceasefires several times. However, both sides have made it clear that they are only negotiating a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons and not an end to the war.

RSF General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, often referred to as Hemedti, has confirmed that an RSF delegation is participating and says he hopes the negotiations will achieve their intended purpose of ensuring safe passage for civilians.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan writes on Twitter that he hopes the parties will participate in a dialogue that will hopefully lead to an end to the conflict.

Despite the talks, there were reports of firefights in several places in Khartoum on Saturday.
