On Sunday, the stage is set for the season premiere of the viewer favorite Every time we meet on TV 2.

Beloved Bjørn Eidsvåg (68) is this year’s first main guest with the greatest of naturalness. After twelve nos, the native of Rogaland finally takes the guest of honor chair with a bouquet of established artists and young up-and-comers by his side.

This gang consists of Freddy Kalas (32), Emma Steinbakken (19), Isah (23), Karoline Krüger (52), Ingebjørg Bratland (32) and Kristian Kristensen (30).

Excitement and awe are in the air during the big day when the participants will interpret songs from Eidsvåg’s extensive catalogue. Already upon his arrival on Kjerringøy, the 68-year-old has managed to get the nicknames “Don Bjørn” and “Godfather”.

Watch Eidsvåg tell about what his celebrity status did to him in the video at the top of the story.

– I can feel the nervousness of my colleagues about what they have to do. I looked at Fredrik (Freddy Kalas, journ.anm.) and he was sweating – it makes me a little moved. I am absolutely sure that it will go well, says the veteran artist with a smile in the premiere episode.

It turns out to be a lunch and dinner filled with touching and beautiful musical moments. At the same time, Eidsvåg dives into life and career, and opens up, among other things, about when his career really took off.

Be arrogant

For much of the 1980s, Eidsvåg was hospital chaplain at Lier psychiatric hospital. As the years went by, he gradually got more and more playing assignments in addition to his everyday job. The Melodi Grand Prix participation in 1985 was more or less the door opener for the musician.

The native of Rogal decided to invest fully in music.

The successful albums “Alt du vil ha”, “Allemannsland” and “Landet lenger bak” came shortly afterwards, followed by several Spellemann awards.

Eidsvåg became public property.

In the early 2000s, his success reached new heights when he released the album “Tålt” and sang “Mysteriet deg” with Swedish Lisa Nilsson.

It was also at this time that Eidsvåg began to feel one of the many pitfalls of fame.

– I thought I was popular before that, but fytti grisen, then I was the best-selling artist in Norway for a few years, he recalls over the dinner table in the programme, and continues:

– So then you believe for a moment what everyone says. Everyone is out there and is a yes person. Everything is so wonderful. You are invited to everything, everything is free for a period of time and you come first in the queue.

The celebrity status had affected him in a negative way.

– I became an idiot. It went to my head. I believed that I was something special, that I had some extra rights.

– I felt that sides of me came out that I didn’t like. One of the things that made me act like that was booze. I drank a little too much cognac at the time, and it made me wild and crazy, he continues thoughtfully.

He swept away the rose and the positive response from the audience.

– There were many people who met me at the time who said: “Oh, you’ve made a fantastic song”, and I thought: “Shut up”.

Got it together

But the turning point finally came, and the ring fox realized that he had to put his arrogance and haughtiness aside.

– For some, “Eg ser” is the most important song they have heard, and they have traveled far to hear it, and it reminds them of something that is painful and difficult, but has helped them in one way or another, says he, and continues:

This lovely duet will give you goosebumps

– I can’t be that asshole who hovers over it and behaves silly. I made a choice – I can’t be like this, I can’t behave like this.

Watch the season premiere of Every time we meet on Sunday at 8pm on TV 2 Direkte. You can already watch the premiere on TV 2 Play.
