After the delays in the publications, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) announced today that on Tuesday, January 31, it will publish the provisional results of the 2022 Census.

In this context, it should be noted that this information, according to the official schedule of INDEC, had to be shared a maximum of 90 days after the surveys were carried out in homes, that is, on August 18. Likewise, today was the deadline for the first definitive results of the survey, 8 months after the questionnaire was completed. However, the agency could not meet the delivery date and reported that it will only disseminate part of the information collected in 13 days.

What happened to the results?

On August 18, when the agreed deadline for the publication of the preliminary results -90 days- expired, INDEC reported that since it was a bimodal Census, for the first time in history, which collected 50.32% of the data digitally and 49.68% in person from the analysis of both sources would provide the final data.

However, for the preliminary data, the summary form was traditionally used, but in this case the institute announced that the information available for the preliminary analysis did not meet “with the standards required by the institute for the dissemination of accurate statistical information”.

As they explained, a significant percentage of the data of the people who completed the digital census was not included in the summary forms with which the preliminary count is made. At that time, from the organization led by Marco Lavagna they assured that “this situation does not affect the schedule of dissemination of the final results of the Census.”

“From the day after May 18 and until the end of November -as originally planned- the optical reading of the more than 15 million census questionnaires is carried out. Once this task is finished, we will obtain a large database, ”the head of Indec Lavagna indicated in November through his Twitter account.

“Once the basis of the paper questionnaires is combined with that of the digital Census (50% of the country’s households chose this modality), we will be able to disseminate, first, the preliminary results that could not be carried out with the forms and, secondly, 2023, the final ones”, added the official.

Despite this, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) announced today that on Tuesday, January 31, it will publish the provisional results of the 2022 Census, 13 days after the date scheduled for the publication of the final data.

What information will be published?

According to what was communicated by the agency, next Tuesday, January 31, the total population by sex, according to province and department/party/community will be known.

Details will also be given about the population living in private homes, as well as the number of families living on the streets, by province and department. And the number of homes that currently exist according to each category (private and collective) will be presented.
