Just a week ago they were rejoicing in Dortmund and after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 they thought they were on their way to the championship. On Friday evening, after the 1-1 draw at VfL Bochum, BVB couldn’t have been more frustrated. Bayern can now win the title again on their own, while Borussia will have to wait for Munich’s next slip-up.

Now, more twists and turns are to be expected in this somewhat insane season. Nevertheless, the question is starting to arise as to whether FC Bayern will ultimately be awarded the championship trophy because no one else wanted it?

Yes, of course. There were some debatable decisions by referee Sascha Stegemann in Bochum, but there were enough chances for Dortmund to win the game against a relegation candidate even without a penalty (optional: foul or hand penalty). That didn’t work out again from BVB’s point of view, who now for the third time in the second half of the season only played a draw with a team from the bottom of the table – before that it was the case with 2: 2 at Schalke and 3: 3 in Stuttgart.

After all, the entertainment value this season is right

It’s a bit cheap to blame others for your own failings, but in this exciting final part of the season it’s also important to distract from obvious weaknesses. There’s a lot of folklore there. And of course it also contributes to the maintenance value, which this year in the Bundesliga is even given to the end again at the top.

Realistically, it’s hard to imagine Bayern winning all of their five remaining games after their performances over the past few weeks. So Dortmund will very likely get the next chance. And it’s quite possible that BVB will be talking euphorically about the title again after the 31st match day.

It is clear, however, that the team must ideally show their collective will to win in the remaining games for 90 minutes on the pitch – and not only afterwards, when it comes to condemning the referee as a whole.
