The Moroccan delegation should not come to Algeria to take part in CHAN-2022. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation published an official press release this early morning, in which it specifies that Morocco is not in a position to make the trip to Constantine. And this, for not having received a follow-up to his request sent to CAF.

We can say that it is now quasi-official. Morocco should not travel to Algeria to play CHAN-2022. And for good reason, the neighboring country did not receive following its request sent to CAF for a direct flight Rabat-Constantine.

“The Moroccan football team is unable to travel to Constantine to take part in the 7th edition of the African Nations Football Championship and thus defend its title. And for good reason, the final authorization of his Royal Air Maroc (RAM) flight, official carrier of the Moroccan football teams, from Rabat to Constantine has not been confirmed. We read at the beginning of the official press release of the FRMF, published this early morning

“Following its request for authorization of a RAM flight from Rabat to Constantine, the FRMF was informed on December 22, 2022 by CAF, as the body in charge of the organization of CHAN 2022, that an authorization in principle had been obtained. While the trip of the Moroccan selection from Rabat to Constantine is organized by the FRMF and the kick-off of CHAN 2022 is scheduled for January 13, 2023, i.e. in 24 hours, the FRMF notes with regret that obtaining the final authorization for the RAM flight from Rabat to Constantine has unfortunately still not been confirmed by CAF”. Add the release.

Boycott or ultimate pressure?

In the press release from the Royal Federation of Moroccan Football, we note that the latter did not utter the terms “boycott” or “forfeit”. We can say that it has not yet officially announced its withdrawal from the 7th edition of the African Nations Championship.

It remains to be seen now whether the neighboring country is attempting a final push. In other words, he would play his last card, just three days before entering the competition.

In the event that his withdrawal is confirmed, Morocco will not be immune to heavy sanctions from CAF.
