As the start of the 7th edition of the African Nations Championship, CHAN 2023, approaches, the Confederation of African Football continues to refine the scenery of the competition.
Indeed, after unveiling the stadiums that will host this event organized in Algeria, CAF announced the list of referees who will have the task of officiating the matches of this competition composed of local national teams.
Thus, the African body will count on 19 African referees to administer the matches of the equivalent of the African Cup of local players.
Controversial referee in Algeria, the Gambian, Bakary Gassama, will not be part of the “Refree” that CAF has chosen for this CHAN 2023. Another blow for the referee that FIFA rejected very early during the World Cup 2022
The list of referees that the African Football Confederation has selected includes a single main referee of Algerian nationality with two touch judges.
In this wake, the Algerian referee, Loutfi Bekouassa, will be the only representative of the Algerian whistle during this CHAN. Bekouassa will be accompanied by, Abbes Akram Zerhouni, and Brahim El Hamlaoui Sid Ali, on the touchline.
The 7th edition of CHAN will be an opportunity for the Togolese referee, Vincentia E. Amedome, to be the first lady to officiate in the final phase of CHAN. She will be accompanied by, Atezumbong Fomo Carine (Cameroon), and
Dinna Chikotesha (Zambia). The female referee trio will go down in the history of this competition.
