A 23-year-old British student was sentenced to 100 hours of community service on Friday after being found guilty of the offense of threatening or abusive behavior for throwing eggs at King Charles III in York (north England) in autumn.
Arrested on November 9 by the police, Patrick Thelwell was tried on Friday by the York court, after having thrown at least five eggs in the direction of the monarch during a stroll of it, accompanied by his wife the queen Consort Camilla. However, all had missed their target. He then shouted “The king is a paedophile!”.
The young man had pleaded not guilty, arguing that his act of “low intensity violence” was legal in that it constituted an act of defense against “violence carried out by the British State”.
Another similar incident
In January, a 21-year-old man was fined 100 pounds (about 112 euros) for throwing an egg at the king in December during a trip to the poor north London town of Luton.
Less popular than his mother Elizabeth II, whom he succeeded in September, King Charles, 74, is to be crowned on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in the British capital. Several of his recent trips have been targeted by a few anti-monarchist demonstrators who held up signs that read: “not my king”.
