The Ministry of Education (MINED) identified the two minors who died in the early hours of this Wednesday in the fire of a house in Centro Habana by the explosion of two motorboats, as Kevin Bernal Lopez, 4; and Caroline Bernal Lopez, 6;

“All the deceased hurt us, but without a doubt, the children shake us, we lost two treasures”indicates the note published by the MINED on social networks.

The official entity specified that the 4-year-old boy was cared for by the Educate Your Child Program and that in the case of Carolina Bernal López he was in first grade at the Paquito González Cueto elementary school, a center adjacent to the damaged house.

“For all of us who suffer such unfortunate losses today, the hug and deep sentiment of the workers in the educational sector and their students”concluded the MINED in a mournful note much more heartfelt than the one published by Miguel Diaz-Canel.

After the fatal house fire located at 159 Perseverancia Street, between Ánimas and Virtudesin Centro Habana, where seven people died, the authorities cordoned off the area and proceeded to shore up the house.

“We regret human losses in the fire. Our condolences to family and friends,” Díaz-Canel wrote on Twitter, in a brief note of condolences.

It was early in the morning of this Wednesday that the Government of Havana published the first notes on the tragedy. The provincial authority stated that the incident originated in a “mixed construction housing, with masonry and wood structures inside”and said that everything seemed to indicate that the fire started from the explosion of two motors that were being charged in the living room of the house.

Given the magnitude of the fire, joint forces of the Ministerio del Interior (MININT)the police and the Cuban Fire Department with endowments from various municipalities, as well as the Rescue and Rescue Detachment, in addition to various authorities in the province.

In the house lived a woman of about 50 years and her adult children -a female and a male- with their respective partners. The two minors who died were children of one of the couples.

During the course, one of the victims was identified, the mother and grandmother of the family, Magalys Leonwho worked as economic manager of ARTEX Cultural Centers.

In recent years, the explosion of electric motorcycles has become one of the main causes of fire in the country, causing not only significant material losses to the victims, but also the loss of human life. However, the fire this Wednesday in Central Havana has been the deadliest for this cause that has been reported to date in Cuba.
