A chilling call made to the police by a woman witness to the shooting occurred Wednesday night in an apartment complex in the city of Fort Lauderdale, came to light this Thursday.
The recording at 911 lets listen to a frightened woman describing the events that were taking place in the patio area of the Broward Garden condominium, where five people were shot, including two minors.
“They were outside setting off fireworks and someone came up and shot themthe woman told 911.
A man who asked not to be identified told media locals who found out when they got home that their two cousins had been taken to the hospital after being run over.
“They are still in the hospital. One of my cousins is fine. He only has a scratch, but my other cousin had to spend the night in the hospital,” the man said.
According to police, a group of people were gathered in a courtyard of the apartment complex when they confronted a second group and an exchange of fire ensued.
“It sounded like big rocks hitting my windows,” said one woman.
The woman whose house received nearly half a dozen bullet wounds told Local 10 News that she feels lucky that neither she nor her daughter were injured in the incident.
According to the testimony of another woman, two of her children were injured. One of them, aged 11, was grazed by a bullet, while the other, aged 14, had a projectile go through his leg.
Police were seen talking to witnesses and handing out flyers to find the shooter or shooters responsible.
“I feel terrible for the parents of those children, because I can only imagine if they were mine,” said Jessica Bowe, a Fort Lauderdale resident.
A neighbor in the area said that a child was bleeding and looked serious: “Only children. I mean that they are shooting children“, he exposed.
Investigators said that of the five fatalities shot, at least three remain hospitalized at Broward Health Medical Center, with one person in critical condition.
