China condemns the scale of the "troublemaker" Vice President of Taiwan in the US during his trip to Paraguay

MADRID, 13 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has issued a statement this Sunday in which it “firmly opposes any form of interaction between the United States and Taiwan”, which includes the scale carried out by the Taiwanese vice president, William Lai Ching Te, who has been the trigger of the Chinese writing.

“We strongly oppose any visit by ‘Taiwan independence’ separatists to the US, under any name or under any pretext,” the statement read. “We strongly oppose the US government having any form of official contact with the Taiwan region,” continues the note published on the ministry’s website.

The Chinese authorities have stressed that they also “deplore and condemn” that the administration of the North American country has offered to organize the so-called “scale” of Lai Ching Te, whom they define as “a troublemaker from beginning to end.”

The alleged reason is the suspicion on the part of the Chinese government that, under the pretext of making a stopover, the authorities of the United States and those of Taiwan have made “arrangements” so that the vice president of the island could participate in political activities.

“This seriously violates the one-China principle and seriously undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Foreign Ministry said.

At the end of their letter, they have warned that the Taiwan question is a “red line”, the first, that “must not be crossed in relations between China and the United States” and have asked that they stop “conspiring and supporting the forces separatists” and comply with the aforementioned one-China principle.

The escalation of tensions between these countries began with the trip to the island of the then president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in August of last year, and the situation has worsened after the visit of the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing Wen, to the North American country, where he met several US congressmen despite warnings from Beijing.

Taiwan has had an independent government since 1949, but China considers the territory under its sovereignty and its fundamental policy towards the island is peaceful reunification under the “one country, two systems” principle, although it does not rule out the use of force before “independence attempts”.
