The Chuwi HiPad Max is a new and, at 200 euros, a comparatively inexpensive Android tablet from China with a 10-inch display, lots of RAM and even LTE support. Our colleague Andrzej Tokarski tested it and shows where the tablet’s strengths and weaknesses lie.

Viewing angle stability is not convincing

Chuwi installs a 10.36-inch IPS display with a 60 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels in the HiPad Max. It is laminated and sufficiently bright at 400 nits. Unfortunately, it has a fairly poor viewing angle stability. Otherwise, the contrasts and color reproduction are okay. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and the main camera on the back has 8 megapixels. The image quality of both sensors is not particularly good and is therefore only suitable for occasional snapshots. The four speakers aren’t entirely convincing either, since they sound fairly flat and overdrive when the volume is increased. On the other hand, it is pleasing that the tablet also supports LTE in addition to WLAN and that there are a total of two SIM slots.

Sufficient performance

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 680, 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory were installed. In the CPU test with Geekbench 5, the Chuwi HiPad Max is roughly on par with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. However, the graphics performance is weaker, which is also evident in games like PUBG Mobile or Apex Legends. However, the performance is sufficient for simple games, surfing the Internet or Netflix. Thanks to a Widevine level of L1, streaming services even deliver HD resolution.

Android 12 is pre-installed as the operating system. There are hardly any adjustments, but it is unclear whether Chuwi will deliver updates in the future.
