In its latest weekly letter, the CIES Football Observatory has estimated the most expensive players in the world with a new leader: Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. Only 3rd place, Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbapp is penalized by the end of his contract in June 2024.

Jude Bellingham, the most expensive player in the world?

Who is the most expensive player in the world? For several years, the CIES Football Observatory, thanks to a precise algorithm taking into account several criteria (age, contract, level, performance, status, etc.), regularly answers this question.

And after the 2022 World Cup, we find a new leader at the top of this ranking: Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham!

Bellingham in the lead, Mbapp in 3rd place

Impressive in Qatar, the English international has a huge popularity rating. Already courted by Real Madrid and Liverpool for next summer, Bellingham, under contract until June 2025 with the BvB, was thus valued at 208.2 million euros. On the podium, the Briton is ahead of his compatriot, Manchester City winger Phil Foden (€200.5m), and Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbapp (€190.7m).

How to explain this 3rd place for the French international despite XXL performances in club and selection in recent months? The answer obviously lies in the duration of the lease, which expires in June 2024 in Paris. An element that also penalized Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, 4th with an estimated value of 190.5 million euros. In order, we then find in the Top 10: Erling Hland (€174.9m), Pedri (€170.2m), Gavi (€147.6m), Jamal Musiala (€145.1m) , Josko Gvardiol (€125.8m) and Federico Valverde (€123.5m).

France well placed, L1 saves by PSG

And France in everything? In addition to Mbapp, our country can count on 11 additional representatives: Aurlien Tchouamni (16th, €107.2m), Jules Kound (22nd, €98.7m), Christopher Nkunku (23rd, €98.6m), William Saliba (34th, €80.3m), Eduardo Camavinga (42nd, €78m), Dayot Upamecano (54th, €68.9m), Tho Hernandez (63rd, €66.8m), Ousmane Dembl (66th , €64.2m), Moussa Diaby (76th, €60.1m), Ibrahima Konat (79th, €56.6m) and Kingsley Coman (96th, €50.5m). Thus, France is the third nation, tied with Portugal (12), the most represented behind England (14) and Brazil (14), but ahead of Germany (8), Spain (6), Italy (5) or Argentina (4).

At the level of the championships, Paris Saint-Germain allows Ligue 1 (7) to exist with Mbapp, Gianluigi Donnarumma (43rd, 75.7 M€), Achraf Hakimi (48th, 71 M€), Nuno Mendes (67th, €63.7m), Vitinha (84th, €55m) and Neymar (89th, €52.6m). Lille striker Jonathan David (100th, €49.4 million) is the only representative of L1 who does not evolve in Paris. Unsurprisingly, the Premier League crushes the debates with 44 players in the Top 100 ahead of La Liga (18), the Bundesliga (17) and finally Serie A (9)…
