City of Katy drastically restricts landscape watering

HOUSTON – Residents of the city of Katy were sheltered by an order to drastically restrict the use of water for irrigation, car washing and other outdoor activities.

In this way, the residents of this city to the west of the metropolitan area will only be able to water their lawn two days a week (Sunday and Thursday for addresses ending in even numbers and Saturday and Wednesday for odd addresses).

Waterings are only allowed between midnight and 8 am or between 8 pm and midnight of the same day.

Any person who fails to comply with the irrigation schedule will initially be exposed to a warning letter, and then to a penalty of up to $2,000 or even disconnection of the service.

The decision to declare the restriction was due to water use exceeding 85% of pumping capacity in a continuous 3-day period.

In addition to the irrigation restriction, it will not be possible to wash facades, windows or other surfaces with a hose. It is also not allowed to wash vehicles in front of the houses, or fill or empty swimming pools, among other things.

The restriction will be in force until the drought conditions in the area improve.

The colored area corresponds to the Katy city limits where the restriction operates.
