Coaches of Argentina and Chile suspended for the next match

The technicians of ArgentinaLionel Scaloni, and ChileRicardo Gareca, will not be able to lead their teams in the third and final day of the America Cup due to a suspension from Conmebol.

The Disciplinary Commission decided to impose suspensions on the coaches, in addition to fines of US$ 15 thousand for the federations of Argentina and Chile.

The reason for this sanction is that Argentina delayed taking to the field in the second half against Chile and exceeded the 15 minutes stipulated for half-time.. A situation similar to that experienced in the first match against Canada and which the North American coach, Jesse Marsch, later complained about in the press room.

Chile’s coach, Argentine Ricardo Gareca, was also sanctioned for a similar situation and will not be on the bench in the match against Canada. The reason for the sanction is that one of his players entered the field late after half-time in the match against Argentina. Chile had already been warned for a similar situation in the match against Peru and after it was repeated against Argentina, Conmebol decided to sanction the coach.

Suspensions must be left behind when teams return for the second half of games, as provided for in Article 145 of the General Regulations of the 2024 Copa América.

In this way, Scaloni will not coach the ‘Albiceleste’, already qualified for the quarterfinals, Saturday’s game against Peru.

However, Gareca will not be on the bench for Chile’s match against Canada, with ‘La Roja’ needing a win to have any chance of progressing.
