President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced this Tuesday that the authorities are conducting an investigation for 63 permits that the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (cofepris) granted to market cannabis-derived products.

The president pointed out that most of these permits are linked to the family of former president Vicente Fox Quesada.

“Now that we are talking about drugs, maybe you don’t know, but it happened to me yesterday, the director of Cofepris that they are doing an investigation,” he said about the information released this morning from the National Palace.

“Five days before the end of the government of Enrique Pena Nieto, Cofepris granted 63 permits to trade cannabis-derived products. The majority for companies of the Fox family, the investigation is already being carried out”, reported the Chief Executive.

AMLO He explained that this information was received by him yesterday, so there is still no sanction against the possible perpetrators, but he assured that a complaint will be filed.

No (they have filed a complaint), if only yesterday they informed me. It is that this type of thing is discovered every day and of course a complaint will be filed, of course, ”he said.

In addition, the President of the Republic assured that there were basements in the Commission, for which reason the authorities are revealing things and pointed out that it is necessary to prove who gave the permits.

On the other hand, López Obrador affirmed that the interest of former President Fox -2000 and 2006- has an economic interest in the decriminalization of the recreational use of marijuana in the country.

“Of course it is an economic interest. It is that their god is money”, said AMLO.

Also, he criticized that people have been deceived in the past to make them believe that there had been a change in the country; however, things such as the aforementioned permits granted by Cofepris were legitimized.
