Mexico City.- The Colombian authorities opened an investigation against six soldiers for allegedly raping a 15-year-old indigenous adolescent from the Nukak community, in the department of Guaviare, amid complaints published on social networks about members of the Army who allegedly abused of indigenous girls, as reported this Friday.
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, spoke this Friday about this controversy unleashed in recent days in Colombia: “I have asked that a commission from the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) and the Presidency immediately travel to Guaviare and address the complaints of violations of minors”.
“This horror has been fueled by impunity for years,” the president said on his social media. Petro assured that “all investigations will be initiated, even for the omission of officials.”
In this sense, the Attorney General’s Office also reported in a statement that it is carrying out a disciplinary process against six members of the National Army for allegedly raping a 15-year-old adolescent belonging to the Nukak indigenous community in the village of Charras in San José del Guaviare. The events took place in September 2019 when the military was active in the Jungle Infantry Battalion No. 19.
The Office of the Delegate Attorney for the Defense of Human Rights is finalizing the collection and collection of the probative material while an extraordinary commission was transferred to the department to learn about the institutional response to new complaints about the sexual exploitation of girls.
Also, the Ombudsman’s Office took action regarding these complaints and a team of the Delegates for Children and Women visited San José del Guaviare to evaluate the response of the different entities to the complaints from the community.
Another allegation that a US military man raped a 10-year-old indigenous girl and impregnated her was released this week, sparking outrage and prompting authorities to open an investigation. Added to this case was the rape by the military of another indigenous girl.
