A Colorado couple has been arrested on charges related to the 2018 death of a southern Nevada man.

Patrick Byrom, 41, and his girlfriend, Kortny Payne, 45, have been identified as suspects in the death of William “Bill” Ellis, according to a news release from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Ellis was 86 years old when her body was found on September 11, 2018, in Carpenter Canyon, near Mount Charleston. Ellis was reported missing on September 26, 2018.

Homicide detectives took up the investigation due to suspicion of a crime, the Metropolitan Police said.

Due to the condition of the body and the lack of identification, scientific methods were used to help identify the victim. In 2021, results re-identified the deceased as Ellis.

Payne and Byrom were located in Colorado detention centers, where they were serving time for an unrelated crime they both committed in November 2018, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Ellis had hired Payne to be her in-home caregiver beginning in July 2018.

An arrest warrant was issued for Byrom and Payne in May. The charges were open murder with a deadly weapon involving an elderly person, robbery with a deadly weapon involving an elderly person, battery of an elderly person resulting in death or significant bodily injury, and conspiracy to commit a crime. heist.

Byrom and Payne were extradited from Colorado correctional facilities and have been booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
