Ice crystals can sparkle seductively. If you examine them closely, they look like stars. You would love to kiss her. Which is strongly discouraged.

My son and his friend M. tried it. Once in December, when the yard of their elementary school was covered with fresh snow, they both wanted to win a bet: who dares touch the metal post of the soccer goal with their tongue? They stuck straight away. My son managed to break free. His tongue hurt for days. M. could only be freed by an educator with a washcloth and hot water.

Licking ice cream can be healthy. Especially in winter. Years ago, a friend advised me to eat spaghetti ice cream to treat a sore throat. Supposedly a recommendation from his doctor. Sounded clear. Cold constricts the blood vessels and has an anesthetic effect. The throat becomes smoother. The efficiency of milk ice cream in particular may be debatable, but I’ve been taking my friend’s words as a free pass for the occasional feast ever since. A license to lick.

120 calories and 20 percent sugar per ice cream scoop? It doesn’t matter, it’s for healing. And because your throat is constantly scratching at the current temperatures, you have to treat it consistently. If ice cream is a medicine, wouldn’t health insurance companies have to cover the costs for stracciatella, raspberry or lime?!

Enjoying food counter-cyclically has advantages. If you drink warm drinks in summer, you don’t sweat them out right away. Ice cream can be enjoyed longer in winter because it doesn’t immediately melt and drip onto your pants.

It’s just a shame that almost all ice cream parlors are now closing. On the public holidays, it can also be industrial ice cream in the style of Prince Pückler. Another tip for New Year’s Eve: Don’t hold onto your sparkling wine on ice for too long on the balcony. You could get stuck. Drinking faster helps. Happy New Year!
