Communist group promotes Marxist course at FIU

MIAMI — The renowned writer Cuban, lexter savioraised his voice against a controversial marxist course promoted by a group communist which will take place in the Florida International University (FIU).

The writer denounced that this type of activity that calls for the urgent need to make a “revolution” represents a threat to the fundamental values of society.

Savio expressed deep concern about the content and implications of a course titled “Marxism in the Revolution: Keys to Transformation”which is scheduled to begin on August 29.

“It is worrying to see how these ideas are spreading among young students, who often lack the necessary knowledge to critically assess the historical consequences of such movements,” he said through his social networks.

The writer, known for his defense of freedom and human rights, argued that this course promotes a dangerous ideology that goes against the values of private property, liberty and the pursuit of happiness enshrined in the United States Constitution.

“We the cubans We know how this works, and this is something very dangerous, because there is a phrase that is put in many movies that says that for evil to triumph, all it takes is for the good guys not to say anything,” he said.

Savio also stressed the danger of these ideas gaining traction in an academic environment, where freedom of expression is valued and protected.

Freedom of expression is a tool used by communists in democratic countries. However, when authoritarian regimes take power they curtail that right.

“It is unfortunate that this is happening at the university where I study as a Cuban. And if it is happening here in the heart of Miami, imagine how it must be in universities in Colorado, Washington, Alabama. This is a cancer that is eating Latin America , which starts in Havana and as you can see, is also spreading in the United States”

Savio’s complaint triggered a debate in the academic community and more broadly in society. Some defend the course as an opportunity for discussion and critical analysis of political theories, while others share Savio’s concern that promoting a “revolutionary ideology” can have potentially dangerous implications.
