district of Wesel.
Dog tax revenue continues to rise, even if the trend is weakening. This is how it looks in the district of Wesel.

In the past two years, most of the 13 municipalities in the district of Wesel more dog tax collected. As reported by the State Statistical Office IT NRW, the cities and municipalities received a total of around 3.49 million euros for the four-legged friends from January to September 2022. Compared to the same months, that was 132,000 euros more than in 2020 and at least a good 10,000 euros more than in 2021. The district of Wesel is thus in line with the state-wide trend: with 104.6 million euros, the municipalities in NRW took 104.6 million euros in the first nine months of the past year 2.5 million more for the four-legged friends than in the same period last year.

A look at the five-year comparison shows that revenue from the dog tax in North Rhine-Westphalia has increased by 15 percent since 2017, which is 13.6 million euros. Statements on the number of taxed animals cannot be concluded from this, however: the municipalities set the dog tax themselves, and according to different criteria. Some take or tax the number of pets in a household differently.

The picture in the district of Wesel is as different as the dog tax rates of the municipalities: with 702,260 euros Moers most dog taxes last year, but that was 4620 euros less than 2021 (minus 0.7 percent). Moers, together with Dinslaken, is the most expensive place for dogs in the Wesel district at 120 euros a year. Dinslaken was nevertheless able to increase by 11,725 euros (plus 2.2 percent) to 535,239 euros. Sonsbeck takes 54 euros per dog and year, making it the most dog-friendly municipality and was able to earn 356 euros (plus 0.5 percent) more than in 2021 with 67,413 euros.
